Health Savings Account North Carolina Quote
Blue Options HSA North Carolina
Blue Options HSA pairs Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina's most popular type of health plan – the Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) – with a Health Savings Account (HSA). It is a tax-free way to help pay for current and future out-of-pocket health care expenses. To be eligible to open a Health Savings Account and begin saving money for medical expenses tax-free, you must first be covered by an IRS-qualified high deductible health plan (HDHP) such as the Blue Options HSA. High deductible health plans have lower premiums than traditional plans so you will begin saving money immediately.
The beauty of the HSA is that you can make tax-deductible contributions in a lump sum or throughout the year and as your HSA balance grows, it accrues earnings tax-free, and all qualified payments made from the HSA account are also tax-free. Funds that are not used in a given year roll over to the next year and belong to YOU. Additionally, HSA funds can be invested to save for future medical expenses or even retirement.
With the Blue Options HSA, you can begin using your HSA funds even before you meet your specified deductible! Until you reach your deductible, you will be responsible for the total cost of any health care that you receive. However, you will still receive the Blue Cross negotiated discount rate when you visit a participating provider. You can choose to use your HSA debit card or checkbook to pay for the services directly, or, you may choose to reserve your HSA money for future medical expenses. You can also choose to use your HSA fund to pay for qualified medical expenses that are not covered by the health plan, such as over-the-counter medications and LASIK eye surgery, among others.
As a subscriber to a Blue Options HSA plan, you are also covered for certain preventive care services before you ever meet your deductible. These services include Annual Physical Exams, Annual OB/GYN Exams, Annual Pap Smear, Mammography and PSA Screening, and Standard Immunizations.
